Savannah Smith, LMSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who values the merging of mind and body in the mental health world. Born in Boulder, Colorado, raised in Bradenton, Florida, and currently residing in Metro Detroit, I've had the privilege of meeting people from all walks of life. I'm a married mama of two specializing in trauma healing of all types, with specific qualifications in childhood trauma and birthing. I believe who we are is based on childhood experiences, and that we carry burdened parts with us in adulthood. With somatic awareness and a mind-body approach, healing can be carefree when using your own intuitive power.

Nourishment and the ability to feed your soul relies on dedication to therapy, curiosity of self, and a strong therapeutic relationship. This therapy formula can be applied to almost all presenting problems. I focus on peri- and postpartum support, with emphasis on fertility, loss, birth trauma, and survivors of sexual assault giving birth. I additionally have a deep passion for working with childhood trauma manifesting into adulthood, with a focus on sexual trauma and codependency.

I believe in a holistic approach to therapy, with emphasis on a mutual understanding between the mind and the body. This focus, with Internal Family Systems and a Polyvagal approach, allows for a deeper understanding on self, building safety and resilience in your healing journey.

Specialties

I use modalities that range from somatic work, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness and Meditation, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Cognitive processing, Polyvagal Theory, and holistic psychotherapy. All of my practice comes deeply from a trauma focused perspective, and I carry an additional certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).

Maternal Mental Health

Alongside lived experience, training in maternal mental health has allowed me to gain immense insight to what it means to be a mother. I focus on all parts of maternal mental health, with an emphasis on fertility, miscarriage and loss, and identity loss after becoming a mother.

Birth Trauma

Birth trauma is prevalent and far too common. My definition for birth trauma is broad: the spectrum ranges from unplanned C-section to not feeling an immediate bond with baby to having a near death experience. I am not here to define what trauma is for you, rather to meet you where you've defined your birth and help you decrease the intensity of symptoms that you feel associated with birth. I additionally see partners of those that experienced a traumatic birth, as well as survivors of sexual assault preparing for birth.

Holistic Psychotherapy

Holistic Psychotherapy, in my terms, is pretty much how it sounds: therapy influenced by a holistic perspective. This means addressing not only mental health, but looking at diet, hormone health, sleep hygiene, and movement and food as medicine. If you're looking for crunchy integration, this is where you can find it. This is the fusion of Eastern and Western conceptualization for all walks of life and presenting problems. I have found that this approach works best with depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, trauma, OCD, and major life changes.
